“WHAT KIND OF A CHURCH MUST WE BE?”

1. THE CHALLENGE OF THE MEGA-CITIES IN THE 21 ST CENTURY “HOW CAN WE REACH THE CITY?”

2. “RE-SHAPING OF CULTURE” “DISCIPLING THE NATIONS” TRANSFORMATION!

"In Darrow Miller's book 'Discipling Nations," FOUR ‘GENERATIONS' for Transforming a Society

“THE THINKERS” (Philosophers, Theologians) - Ideas Have Consequences – “RELIGION SPHERE” The system that gives the city its reason for existence (religio – “to bind fast” or to structure”). A religion is that which structures or brings ordered meaning to life.

ADOLF HITLER The Theory of Evolution. (Charles Darwin) Hitler believed that the German Aryan race was superior to all other races.

ADOLF HITLER He believed that this superior Aryan race had the right to exterminate all inferior races since, according to evolution: The “natural order of things” is for the “strong to survive”

“THE BALLADEERS” (poets, playwrights, songwriters, musicians, actors, novelists, film-makers, singers, painters, sculptors) “SPEAKING PROPHETICALLY TO CULTURE” MEDIA & CELEBRATION SPHERE

The Greek philosopher Plato said, "Give me the songs of the nation and it matters not who writes its laws.“ “LES MISERABLES”

1 ST TWO GENERATIONS SET THE FRAMEWORK FOR TRANSFORMATION

CLARIFYING WORLDVIEW ISSUES Because our ideas do have consequences, it is crucial that we "be transformed by the renewing of our mind (Rom 12:2)".

PUMP provides for forums for theological reflection about urban ministry in metro Penang.

Our mission is to discern God's heart for the region and to develop a contextualized theological framework for transformation.

Our goal is that our work will support local pastors and guide grassroots engagement.

IDEOLOGICAL CHANGE alone is not enough Propositional truth, though powerful, is not powerful enough to bring the needed transformation. It must be exhibited in STORY FORM

THAT IS WHY TODAY WE NEED ARTISTS TO EXPRESS THE BIBLICAL CHRISTIAN WORLD VIEW IN MUSIC, IN FILM, THROUGH NOVELS, IN PAINTINGS, AND ON THE STAGE. “For when truth is experienced in a living story, it engages the senses, impacts the person, and reshapes the heart values of a people."

“THE PROFESSIONALS” (doctors, lawyers, engineers, professors, businessmen) EDUCATION, FAMILY, BUSINESS, GOVERNMENT SPHERES

“Business is the only institution that has a chance, as far as I can see, to fundamentally improve the injustice that exists in the world. But first, we will have to move through the barriers that are keeping us from being truly vision-led and capable of learning.” - Edward Simon, President of Herman Miller – - (Quoted in “The Fifth Discipline – The Art & Practice of The Learning Organization)

RELIGION (Biblical Worldview - Mind) CELEBRATION (Prophetic - Heart & Mind) BUSINESSFAMILY MEDIA (Prophetic – Heart & Mind) GOVERNMENTEDUCATION

“PEOPLE” The Societal Transformation Impacts The Broad Masses Of People
