We are: God’s Heart God’s Hands God’s VOICE

Proverbs 31:8 asks us to: Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. At the end of the Power of 7 you will have: A “starter-kit” of Pro Life KNOWLEDGE The beginning CONFIDENCE to engage in a peaceful and effective dialogue with a person who supports abortion

INSTRUCTIONS An introduction to PLACK: Five attitudes for a successful dialogue. We acquire pro-life Knowledge. We begin testing our skills with Dialogue Practice using Common Ground and a “fill in the blank” learning method.

Pray before you speak Listen and stay peaceful and respectful Admit when you don’t have the answer This not only shows good-will and honesty but may provide an opportunity to continue the dialogue some other time: “Let me find the answer and get back to you.” Common Ground: Find an area of agreement when you can Keep it Simple: Stay focused on 1 or 2 key points Keep These Five Attitudes in Mind Before and During a Dialogue

What is the acronym for: The Five Attitudes for a Successful Dialogue?

The acronym for The Five Attitudes for a Successful Dialogue is:

P ___ before you speak L ___ and stay peaceful and respectful A ___ when you do not have an answer C ___ Ground: try an find an agreement K ___ it Simple: Stay focused on 1 or 2 key points

Dialogue Tip… For Staying Calm and Focused In an attempt to distract attention from the real issue, the user of “ad hominem” will discard logic and attack a person’s character or motive. Recognizing when ad hominem is being applied will help you stay calm and focused on your key points. An example of ad hominem would be: “I’ll take you pro lifers seriously when you start adopting the unwanted babies.” (An effective reply to the above argument will be given later on).

With in mind, we’re ready for …

7 Effective Pro Life Replies to 7 Common Pro Choice Arguments 7 Effective Pro Life Replies to 7 Common Pro Choice Arguments

 Find Common Ground when possible  Practice your skills: “Fill in the Blanks” with Pro Life Knowledge

“The preborn baby isn’t really human.”

COMMON GROUND: I agree an embryo or zygote doesn’t look human to our eyes but science has determined that: COMMONGROUND

Human life BEGINS AT CONCEPTION This new life has human DNA with a complete set of 46chromosomes Sperm and egg each have 23 We begin as a zygote and move through the other stages of human development: embryo, fetus, newborn, toddler, child, adolescent, adult (EF, NT, CAA)

Common Ground: I agree a Z ___ certainly does not L ___ H ___ to our eyes but... Science has determined that human life begins at C ___. This new life has human D___ with (#) ___ chromosomes. Sperm and E __ each have (#) ___ C ___. At conception we are a single cell Z ___ and move through stages of development: ___, ___, ___, ___, ___, ___, ___ Hint…EF, NT, CAA

Try and give the your reply - out loud if possible using the “teaser prompts” below as a guide. Science has determined … This new life has human … Sperm and … At conception we are a single cell … ( ZEF, NT, CAA)

How’d you do? If you feel confident, keep going. If you’re stumbling, you’re in good company. Simply go back and review and try again until you feel comfortable continuing. Follow these instructions after each reply that follows.

“You have no right telling a woman what she can or cannot do with her body. Women have the right to choose.”

COMMON GROUND: I agree that a woman’s body is greatly affected by Her pregnancy. And I know you’re trying to be fair. But… COMMONGROUND

Her “choice” affects TWO bodies. The fetus has its own genetic make-up so abortion destroys the body of a separate and unique individual. We should only make choices about ourselves based on what only affects ourselves. Just like driving drunk affects the lives of everyone on the road, abortion affects more than the mother. A child should not pay with its life for the mother and father’s decision not to take responsibility for their actions.

Common Ground: I agree a woman’s body is G ___ A ___ by her P ___. But … Her C ___ affects T ___ B ___. The F ___ has its own G ___ M ___ so abortion destroys the body of a S ___ and U ___ individual. We should only M ___ C ___ about O ___ based on what only A ___ O ___. Like D ___ D ___ affects the lives of everyone on the road, abortion affects M ___ than the mother. A C ___ should not P ___ with its L ___ for the mother and father’s decision N ___ to take R ___ for their A ___.

Her “choice” affects … The fetus has its own … so abortion … We should only make choices … Like driving … A child should not …

“If you don't believe in abortion, fine. Don't have one. But keep your ideas off my body.”

COMMON GROUND: I can understand how you would think it’s no ones business what you do with your body. COMMONGROUND

But a pre born is a separate person with it’s own genetic make-up whose body should also be protected. Its murder cannot go unnoticed. Accepting abortion is the same as saying: “If you don’t believe in murder, fine. Don’t do it. But let me do as I please.” Morally corrupt things, like murder and drug abuse must be challenged and outlawed for the good of everyone

Common Ground: I can U ___ how you would think it’s N ___ O ___ B ___ what you do with Y ___ B ___. But a pre born is a S ___ P ___ with it’s own G ___ M ___ whose body should also B ___ P ___. Its murder cannot go unnoticed. Accepting abortion is the S ___ as S ___: “If you D ___ B ___ in M ___, fine. Don’t do it. But L ___ M ___ D ___ as I please.” M ___ C ___ things, like M ___ and D ___ A ___ must be C ___ and O ___ for the G ___ of everyone.

But a pre born is a … Accepting abortion is the … Morally corrupt things, like …

“Men can’t get pregnant so they shouldn’t tell women what to do.”

Common ground: As a strong supporter of women’s rights, I can see how you would feel that way. COMMONGROUND

 But you’re saying that only those directly affected by abortion should have any say about it but that doesn’t apply to other areas of justice. Not only blacks fought against slavery or for civil rights.  We need everyone, including men, to step up and be advocates for women and children.  We need fathers to take responsibility for the children they helped conceive.

Common ground: As a S ___ S ___ of W ___ rights, I can see H ___ you would F ___ that way.  But you’re saying that only those D ___ A ___ by abortion should have A ___ S ___ about it but that D ___ A ___ to other areas of J ___.  Not only B ___ fought against S ___ or for C ___ R ___.  We N ___ E ___, including M ___, to step up and be A ___ for women and children.  We N ___ F ___ to take R ___ for the children they H ___ C ___.

 But you’re saying that only those …  Not only …  We need E ___…  We need F ___ …

“An abortion should be legal in cases of rape or incest.”

Common Ground: It’s understandable to think that aborting the baby would help ease the terrible brutality of the mother’s experience, but…. COMMONGROUND

 Victims of rape or incest account for 1/3 of 1% of all pregnancies. That does not justify the other 99.67% of abortions.  Evidence shows that abortion compounds the pain. The violence of an abortion, like rape, has its own lingering pain.  Most incest victims seldom consent to abortion seeing the pregnancy as a way out of a horrible situation.  The baby does not deserve the death penalty for the father’s crime.

Common Ground: It’s U ___ to think that A ___ the baby would help E ___ the T ___ B ___ of the M ___ E ___.  V ___ of rape or incest account for (# fraction) ___ of ___% of all P ___. That does N ___ J ___ the other (#) __._% of A ___.  E ___ S ___ that A ___ C ___ the P ___. The V ___ of an abortion, like R ___, has its own L ___ P ___.  M ___ incest V ___ seldom C ___ to abortion seeing the pregnancy as a W ___ O ___ of a horrible situation.  The baby D ___ N ___ D ___ the D ___ P ___for the F ___ crime.

 V ___ of rape or incest account for …  E ___ S ___ that …  M ___ incest V ___ seldom …  The baby D ___ N ___ D ___ …

“If we make abortion illegal, women will have to have back alley abortions and some women will die.”

Common Ground: I’ve heard the horror stories too, so I understand the concern. COMMONGROUND

 But actually she doesn’t have to have an abortion. No woman is forced to have it.  Your reasoning is the the same as saying murder should be legalized because people will do it anyway.  There is no hard evidence of coat hanger abortions. In fact, a Planned Parenthood Medical Director reported 90% of illegal abortions were done by doctors.  Studies report: before Roe v Wade made abortion legal (1973), the estimate for deaths from abortion was 39 women; while to date there have been 347 documented deaths from legal abortion.

Common Ground: I’ve heard the H ___ S ___ too, so I U ___ the C ___.  But actually she doesn’t H ___ T ___ H ___ an abortion. No W ___ is F ___to have it.  Y ___ R ___ is the the same as saying M ___ should be L ___ because P ___ will D ___ it A ___.  There is no H ___ E ___ of C ___ H ___ abortions. In fact, a P ___ P ___ Medical Director reported (#) ___% of I ___ abortions were done by D ___.  Studies report: B ___ R ___ v W ___ made abortion L ___ (1973), the estimate for D ___ from abortion was (#) ___ women; while to date there have been (#) ___ D ___ deaths from L ___ A ___.

 But actually she doesn’t H ___ T ___ H ___ an …  Y ___ R ___ is the the same as saying …  There is no H ___ E ___ of … In fact, a P ___ P ___ …  B ___ R ___ v W ___ made abortion …

“Don’t we need abortion to help prevent overpopulation?”

Common Ground: Concern about overpopulation is common but did you know that… COMMONGROUND

 World population is either holding steady or declining?  In the US, with a birth every 8 seconds and a death every 11 seconds, population is growing at less than 1 %.  An interesting fact is the entire world population would fit comfortably into the landmass of Texas.  But even without those facts, I’m hoping you could agree that taking a life to make it more comfortable for those already born is a pretty selfish act.

Common Ground: C ___ about O ___ is C ___ but did you know that…  W ___ population is either H ___ steady or D ___?  In the US, with a B ___every (#) ___ seconds and a D ___ every (#) ___ seconds, population is G ___ at less than(#) ___ %.  An interesting fact is the E ___ W ___ P ___ would fit comfortably into the land mass of T ___.  But even W ___ those F ___, I’m hoping you could agree that T ___ a life to make it M ___ C ___ for those A ___ B ___ is a pretty selfish act.

W ___ population is either …  In the US, with a B ___ every …  An interesting fact is the E ___ W ___ P …  But even W ___ those F ___ …

REVIEW: Ad Hominem is an argument technique often used to get you off topic. Instead of arguing their case, the user will discard logic and attack your character or motive. The example given at the beginning of the tutorial was: “I’ll take you pro lifers seriously when you start adopting the unwanted babies.” A Reply to the Argument

Common Ground: That’s great we can agree that it’s a human being we’re talking about. And you’re understandably concerned about what happens to the baby after it’s born. COMMONGROUND Extra Credit

 So I’m hoping we can also agree that pointing out something that is morally wrong does not obligate us to take responsibility. For example, if we cannot care for an abused child mean that we should not object and report the abuse? Of course not.  That fact aside, pro life supporters are nevertheless actively involved in the care of the mother and child before and after the baby is born. And many are on waiting lists to adopt.  There are Crisis Pregnancy Centers throughout the US providing pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, food, clothes, diapers, life skill training, parenting training, post-abortion counseling and more – all for free.

Common Ground: That’s great W ___ we can A ___ that it’s a H ___ B ___ we’re talking about and you’re U ___ C ___ about what happens to the baby A ___ it’s B ___.  So I’m hoping we can also A ___ that P ___ O ___ something that is M ___ W ___ does not O ___ us to T ___ R ___. For example, if we C ___ care for an A ___ C __ mean that we should not object and R ___ T ___ A ___? Of course not.  That fact aside, many P ___ L ___ S ___ are nevertheless A ___ I ___ in the C ___ of the mother and child B ___ A ___ A ___ the baby is born. And many are on W ___ L ___ to adopt.  There are C ___ P ___ C ___ throughout the US providing P ___ tests, U ___, F ___, C ___, D ___, L ___ S ___ training, P ___ training, P ___ - A ___ counseling and more – all for F ___.

So I’m hoping we can A ___ that P ___ O ___ something that is M ___ W ___ …  That fact aide, many P ___ L ___ S ___ are …  There are C ___ P ___ C ___ throughout the US providing …
