C ONTRA C OSTA P ROFESSIONAL D EVELOPMENT P ROGRAM FOR AB212 S TATE F UNDED P ROGRAM P ARTICIPANTS

AB212 Overview Session Eligibility Changes for Process Important Dates

Eligibility criteria Applicant must: Be currently employed in a licensed state-funded child care facility Be working directly with children ages 0-12 years who receive state subsidized child care services Have been employed 15 hours a week or more with the same state-funded child care employer for nine (9) months preceding a stipend request. Intend to continue working at the same facility after receiving any incentive.

Changes for Professional Growth Planning is required for all participants Continued emphasis on Degree Completion Targeted Professional Development Partnerships with Community-based Training

Requirements Requirement 1 – Education/Professional Growth – Education related to completion of BA/BS degree – There are two options available to those who hold a BA/BS degree. Requirement 2 – Quality Improvement related to children’s outcomes

Education Plans and Professional Growth Plans are required  An Education Plan created with a college education advisor is required if you have not completed a BA/BS degree. Current Education Plans must be dated after July 1, 2011 to be accepted for participation in AB212 PDP this year. Your Education Plan must include any coursework on your Application and Planning Tool, which you expect to complete prior to May 31, 2013.

Education Plans and Professional Growth Plans are required  Changes or modifications to your Education Plan need to be approved by your AB212 PDP representative before implementation.  Please meet with a Professional Growth Advisor prior to October 10, 2013 to develop/review your professional growth plan.

AB212 Education Requirement No Bachelor’s Degree For all AB212 participants who have not completed a Bachelor’s Degree are required to complete three (3) units of general education or early childhood/child development (after July 1, 2013) toward degree, as documented on transcript with grade of C or better. Coursework planned must be completed prior to May 31, 2014 to be considered for any incentives.

9 AB212 Education Requirement No Bachelor’s Degree A current or revised Education Plan is required to be developed prior to submitting an Application and Planning Tool. Education Plan must include any coursework on your Application and Planning Tool, which you expect to complete prior to May 31, Late Education Plans will not be accepted. Changes or modifications to your Education Plan need to be approved by your AB212 PDP representative before implementation.

CAP 8 Curriculum Alignment Project Child Growth and Development Child Family Community Introduction to Curriculum Principles and Practices of Teaching Observation and Assessment Health, Safety and Nutrition Teaching in a Diverse Society Practicum

11 Education Requirement Bachelor’s Degree Need CAP 8 courses For AB212 participants with a BA/BS or higher, who have completed a minimum of 24 child development units but not including all of the CAP 8 courses as identified by the Curriculum Alignment Project, you are required to complete three (3) units of the CAP 8 courses still needed.

AB212 Educational Requirement Bachelor’s Degree Option 2 Early childhood educators who hold a BA/BS degree or higher with a minimum of 24 child development units including the core 8 courses as identified by the Curriculum Alignment Project may complete a minimum of 54 pre-approved professional growth hours for eligibility to the AB212 PDP.

14 Quality Improvement Plan Requirement All Participants  Review a newly identified area of need from the most recent Desired Results Classroom or Program Action Plan completed at your site.  Develop a Quality Improvement Plan.  Write a summary of activities and reflections on professional growth achieved through the plan.

AB212 State Funded Program Application and Planning Tool Applications must be submitted by November 10, 2013 with all required documents for eligibility for funding in Please remember to include Education Plan! An AB212 PDP Representative will sign the Application and Planning Tool after it is reviewed and approved. Changes or modifications to your Planning Tool need to be approved before implementation.

Late Documents will not be accepted.

Incentives Will be based on the number of Application and Planning Tools submitted by November 10, Priority will be given first for completion of Annual Participation requirements. Additional incentives will be Based on available funds and completion of requirements.
