Presentation transcript:

Cells are the building blocks of all living organisms Cells reproduce to replace old, damaged cells in an organism, to allow growth or growth of a new individual. All living organisms on Earth are divided in pieces called cells. There are also larger pieces called tissues and systems.. You don't find single cells that are as large as a cow. Also, if you were only one cell you couldn't have a nervous system, no muscles for movement. Humans may have hundreds of types of cells. Some cells are used to carry oxygen (O 2 ) through the blood (red blood cells) and others might be specific to the heart.

PLANT CELLANIMAL CELL

Cell Membrane - forms the outer boundary of the cell and allows only certain materials to move into or out of the cell Cytoplasm - a gel-like material inside the cell; it contains water and nutrients for the cell Nucleus - directs the activity of a cell; it contains chromosomes with the DNA cell Mitochondria - break down food and release energy to the cell Vacuoles - are storage areas for the cell

Tissues form part of an organ. Tissues are groups of cells that work together to do a job in the body. They are a group of cells having the same origin, structure and function. The cells look the same or almost the same. The work the cells do is also the same or almost the same.organcellsfunction

Tissue is different from organ. Organs are made up of more than one kind of tissue. The heart is an organ. It is made up of different tissues. It has muscle tissue. It has connective tissue like the endocardium. The endocardium is the thin layer of tissue that surrounds the heart. The heart has valves that make sure the blood goes the right way through the heart. So the heart is an organ made from several tissues.organheartmuscleconnective tissue endocardiumvalves

The chromosomes of a cell are in the cell nucleus. They carry the genetic information. Chromosomes are made up of DNA and protein combined as chromatin. Each chromosome contains many genes. Chromosomes come in pairs: one set from the mother; the other set from the father.cell cell nucleusgeneticDNAprotein chromatingenesmotherfather Chromosomes are present in every cell nucleus with very few and special exceptions. There are 46 chromosomes in a humancell nucleus

DNA, short for deoxyribonucleic acid. DNA is in each cell in the organism and tells cells what proteins to make. A cell's proteins determine its function. DNA is inherited by children from their parents. This is why children share traits with their parents, such as skin, hair and eye color. The DNA in a person is a combination of the DNA from each of their parents.cell proteins inherited traits

A hair follicle is a part of the skin, which grows a hair by packing old cells together. The thicker the hair, the more the number of sebaceous glands that are found. skinhaircells The muscle area can also cause the follicle to stick up slightly above the nearby skin with a pore incased with skin oil. This process results in goose bumps poregoose bumps

What are goose bumps. What is DNA. What is chromosomes. What are cell. List five parts of all cell and their jobs.
