 Software is collection of instructions which tells the computer that what to do and how to do.  There are two fundamental types of software. a) System software b) Application Software 2

 System software are such software that are used to co-ordinate system and all of it’s devices. There are two types of System software. i. Operating System ii. Utility program 3

Operating System Utility program  Operating system contain such instructions that are used to control all the activities among computer, User,hardware and software's.  For example Windows XP  Such a software that are used to perform maintenance type task. Their purpose is to update the computers with time.  For example Drivers of any hardware. 4

 Such software that are used by user for their ease. For example Internet explorer is used for web browsing. There are further two types of Application software. i. Package software ii. Custom Built Software 5

Custom Built Software Package software  Software that is specially designed and programmed for an individual customer or company.  Packaged software is designed to appeal to a large audience of users, and although the programs may be modified to a user's taste by setting various preference.For example Microsoft Word..etc. 6
