Lives saved with Maddie’s Fund support

The Award In May 2013, CAT was awarded a $165,000 grant as part of a Maddie’s Fund Lifesaving Award to the Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland (ASAP). We couldn’t wait to share the news with our community, which had made it possible for us to realize the success recognized by this award!

The Press Conference ASAP leaders at the check presentation and press conference held at Washington County Animal Services

The Press Conference—CAT Representation Members of CAT’s Board of Directors, management team, and CAT executive director celebrate the check presentation

ASAP Press Release ASAP and all ASAP partners sent out the press release to our media contacts, resulting in TV, print, and web coverage of the award

CAT Media Also featured in CAT’s e-Tails, with >8,000 readers and in special announcement to our 600+ volunteers

CAT’s Shelter Maddie’s Fund support is prominently recognized both in our shelter lobby and at the entrance to our treatment and recovery area

The Numbers In 2013 CAT found homes for 2,262 cats and kittens, including 1,320 TR cats and kittens, 59 TM cats and kittens, and 13 UU cats and kittens. We’d like to introduce you to just a few of them…

“Krittafur” Orphaned Krittafur was raised in by one of our wonderful foster families and adopted soon after he returned to the shelter at 8 weeks of age.

“Aperture” FIV-positive, vision-impaired, shy, absolutely terrified of other cats, and with a history of inappropriate urination, Apy still managed to find a wonderful home!

“Jiminy” and “Gepetto” Abandoned in a plastic bin at PetSmart, Jiminy and Gepetto got the socialization they desperately needed in an experienced foster home. Then special adopters willing to work with these still shy kittens took them home.

“Anton” Incredibly sick, FIV-positive, obese, and in need of a full mouth dental extraction, Anton nearly died in his first two weeks with us. After a lot of special care, he got well and found a wonderful home committed to helping him lose weight and stay healthy.

“Scalliwag” A damaged eye didn’t even slow this adorable little guy down. He was adopted within days of returning from foster care.

“Cal” Cam had the worst case of ringworm we’ve ever seen and required a lot of extra care. Once his treatment was complete, he found a great home.

Kitten Palooza Just a few of the 63 kittens we sent home in one day during our annual Kitten Palooza event.

“Gertie” Gertie was an older girl who needed to be on a hypoallergenic diet. At CAT she found a wonderful home with a woman who could buy her special food.

Foster Program One of our mamas and babies who went into one of our amazing foster homes until baby was weaned and both were ready for spay/neuter and adoption.

“Trix” Trix was a senior kitty full of spice. She’d been returned twice before finding her perfect home with an adopter who considered herself just as spicy.

“Wyatt” A very sick little boy when he came to us, Wyatt got the care he needed and was quickly adopted

“Mortimer Mouse” A senior kitty with a mysterious neurological disorder, Mortimer Mouse charmed his way into a fabulous home

Summer Clearance Event When our shelter partners were overcrowded in August, we held a huge “Summer Clearance Event”, dropping adoption fees for adult cats and black kittens. 282 cats and kittens were adopted during the 9 day promotion, making room for us to help our partners

“Judy” Sassy to the nth degree and absolutely intolerant of other cats, Judy took some extra time to find an adopter who was looking for someone to be queen of her castle (which is just what Judy wanted).

“Favored” When he came to us, Favored was at least ten and had only one tooth left (a rotten one), infected wounds, and a grade four heart murmur. He now follows his family’s four dogs around the house and snuggles with them whenever he can.

Thank you, Maddie’s Fund! We couldn’t have done it without you!
