Bridging Text and Context How to find and write the connection

Stages in Writing the Bridging Read the task carefully and translate difficult words. Highlight with 2 different colors the words that are connected to words or sentences in the poem Use the same colors to mark similar sentences/words in the poem

And now let’s start writing… Start your essay with “There is a connection between the information and the poem” Make the first connection:”From the information I learned that…(Copy the first sentence you highlighted) Add “This information is reflected in the poem.”(Copy the similar words /sentences from the poem) Explain the connection

Let’s Practice "In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves... And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility." – Eleanor Roosevelt Make a connection between the above quote and the poem. Give information from the poem to support your answer.

“1 In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves “1 In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves... And 2 the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility." – Eleanor Roosevelt Make a connection between the above quote and the poem. Give information from the poem to support your answer

Poem Information “In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves” “the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility” "that has made all the difference" – "I shall be telling this with a sigh" (the decision had such an important impact that he will talk about it in the future) Two roads diverged in a wood and I-- / I took the road less traveled by" (or anything else that relates to him talking about how he made the decision on his own) – anything about him taking time to think about his decision or describing the difficulty in choosing

Information Poem “the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility” “Two roads diverged in a wood and I-- / I took the road less traveled by“ (or anything relates to him talking about how he made the decision on his own) – anything about him taking time to think about his decision or describing the difficulty in choosing

Final version(Answer key) In the quote Eleanor Roosevelt says that we are responsible for our choices. The speaker in the poem also talks about a choice he has made . He has chosen a road less traveled by and he says that it has made all the difference in his life. This probably means that he is happy with / regrets his choice. Although he is sorry he will never know what the other road might mean for him, he takes responsibility for his decision.

Our Final Version From the information I learned that Eleanor Roosevelt says that we are responsible for our choices. This information is reflected in the poem. The speaker in the poem also talks about a choice he has made He has chosen a road less traveled by and he says that it has made all the difference in his life. I also learned from the information that the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility. Although he is sorry he will never know what the other road might mean for him, he takes responsibility for his decision.
