mission descent accomplish feat humanity Selection Vocabulary mission descent accomplish feat humanity

mission – Which strategy (WAC) will you use? He flew in the Gemini 10 mission, and he had walked in space. His mission was to find the perfect gift for his mother. mission – n – a special job or task syn

descent – Which strategy (WAC) will you use? During that time, they would fire Columbia’s engines to slow themselves down and get into lunar orbit. If it worked, their next step would be to prepare Eagle for its descent to the Moon. As we approached home, the captain turned on the airplane’s fasten seatbelt sign in preparation for our descent. descent – n. – coming from a higher place to a lower one syn & ant

accomplish – Which strategy (WAC) will you use? Armstrong moved his left leg away from Eagle’s footpad and planted his foot in the lunar soil—the first human step on another world. It gave many people a sense of awe and a feeling of pride that humanity had accomplished such a feat. I can’t believe how much school work I have accomplished. I’ll have plenty of time to watch my favorite television show tonight. accomplish – vb – to do something successfully syn & ant

This selection is a nonfiction narrative: Facts about real people, places, or events are included The real people become characters; the real places become settings; and the real events become the plot Sometimes an author may add information about what a particular character is thinking or feeling even though the author could not really know this information This selection will explain the procedures & difficulties astronauts face as well as the feelings of people that witnessed man’s first steps on the moon.

What do you know about our moon? The moon is the Earth’s only natural satellite. It was first visited in 1959 by the unmanned Soviet spacecraft Luna. The moon’s surface is mostly made up of cratered highlands & is covered with dust & rocks. It is directly exposed to solar winds because it has no atmosphere. Water in the form of ice was found in craters near its south pole.

Focus Questions How do the preparations for space travel and land journeys differ? How are astronauts similar to the early land and sea explorers? What makes a quest for humanity different from a personal quest?
