Managing Federal Grants: The Myths The Feds will tell us what to do. They will control the project. We will have to pay back money at the end of the project.

What Makes a Proposal Successful? 1. Working with your Program Officer 2. Strength of Project Director 3. Points 4. Politics 5. Geographic distribution of funds 6. Distribution of funds via initiatives

Tips for Success 1. Work closely with the assigned federal Program Officer. 2. The newer the program, the greater your chances for success. 3. It usually takes two attempts to win a federal grant. 4. Follow the application guidelines. Allow plenty of time to prepare the proposal and make changes. 5. Adjust existing projects to the RFP. 6. Develop a PERT chart and use it as your writing guide. 7. Demonstrate the project is ready to roll.
