Mandarin Curriculum What are our options? 1.Continue to do what we are doing with additional support Teachers create and/or translate curriculum Research and fund more existing supplemental curriculum Fund additional support 2.Develop our own Mandarin Curriculum from scratch 3.Better Chinese Next Generation Product Evaluate & determine if it’s right for us

Better Chinese Option Background Traditional vs. Simplified Why Traditional MIPs in US Market – majority is Simplified Implications Finding Traditional Chinese Curriculum is going to be challenging Finding Common Core & Traditional Chinese is going to be even more challenging Better Chinese Next Generation Curriculum Tied to Common Core, but it’s in Simplified Chinese Includes framework for weekly / daily lessons plans Printed & Digital Content Not completely built-out to its entirety Approximately $64,000 for 2014/15 Better Chinese Next Gen Product in Traditional Chinese For delivery in Sept. 2015, need to start development in Jan Requires a development fee of $100K - $150K (T&Cs negotiable), plus the cost of the materials Options: 1.Pay for the entire development fee ourselves 2.Get other Traditional Chinese Schools interested & have them be part of a collective bargaining deal

2015/16 Proposed Budget Budget ItemItemizedSub-costBudget Mandarin Curriculum Still vetting options $118,000 Instructional Assistants 5 Assistants at $13,000/year $65,000 Professional Development Teacher conferences and training $18,000 Singapore Math Materials$27,000 $24,200 Teacher Training & Subs$4,000 CUSD Math Rebate($6,800) Program Support Assistant Principal 1 day/week$20,000 $35,000 Additional Mandarin Program Support$15,000 Technology 64 Chromebooks$18,000 $19,500 2 Document Cameras$500 Teacher Training & Subs$1,000 Library Mandarin Language Books $1,000 Classroom Supplies $200 x 9 classes $1,800 Parent Education Guest Speakers $1,500 Operational Expenses Financial fees, website, etc $4,000 TOTAL$1,000 Suggested Donation per Student$288,000 As of December 3, 2014

2015 Fundraising Goals Direct Giving – 100% Participation – 288 students x $1,000 suggested donation = $288,000 – Less then $112 per month or $6 per day! – 61% participation in 2013 and only 46% in 2014 – Reduce budget to $150,000 based on historical participation rate Additional Ways to Participate – Volunteer time and goods at our fundraisers throughout the year – Volunteer services such as grant writing, public relations, etc. What will we have to cut if we don’t reach our fundraising goal? – Reduced investment in Mandarin Curriculum – Fewer Instructional Assistants – Less Program Support
