 HMEP Grant Purpose: Increase effectiveness in safely and efficiently handling hazardous materials transportation incidents.  Eligibility: The State of California’s political subdivisions and federally-recognized Tribal Governments within California that have not applied directly to US DOT/PHMSA for funding under this grant program are eligible to apply.  PHMSA Top Priority: Reduce risks associated with the bulk transport of crude oil by rail.

 Supported Planning Activities :  Develop, improve, implement emergency plans/procedures  Emergency response drills and exercises  Determine hazardous materials flow patterns  Assess the need for regional HazMat response teams  Funding expected to be available:$ 515,020  To be distributed to agencies within all six LEPCs  State-level initiatives will be occurring as well

 Filing deadline – June 2, 2014  Signed by the Authorized Agent by this date  Submit electronically to HMEP Grant Administrator by the deadline  Send hard copy to HMEP Grant Administrator postmarked by the deadline  What happens next?  LEPC approval and prioritization  Offer of funding by Cal OES  Applicant signs and returns acceptance documents  Performance period begins  Sub-grantee Webinar
