Revize Wize U Guyz! To His Coy Mistress - Andrew Marvell

Context and Background Andrew Marvell was born on the 13th of March 1621 in Winestead-in-Holderness. He died on the 16th of August 1678 He was an English metaphysical poet, Parliamentarian, and the son of a Chuch of England clergyman. His most famous poems include To His Coy Mistress, The Garden and Upon Appleton House. He has a secondary school in Hull named after him.

Key Themes Carpe-diem (seize the day) The poem is likely mocking the concept of 'carpe diem' that other poets talk about positively. The poem might even be aimed specifically against Robert Herrick's To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time.Robert HerrickTo the Virgins, to Make Much of Time The main theme throughout the poem is the mans love to his young lady, but time is too fast for them to love. Therefore they should make the most of the time they have before it slips away. For, Lady, Deserve the state, Nor would I love at lower rate it shows how much he loves her, she is everything to him. But at my back I always hear Times winged chariot hurrying near Marvell seemlessly uses the conjunction but to pivot from his rhapsody to what he would do to the reality of what he should do.

Imagery My vegetable love should grow Vaster than empires, and more slow at first glance it shows signs of romance, but he is going on about a phallic symbol which represents his penis as a sign of love. then worms shall try That long preserved virginity shows signs of death and that time is running out. Now let us sport us while we may proves their time is running out so they should do what they can with the time they have.

Form The poem is an iambic tetrameter It rhymes at the end of each line in a couplet, and each line has eight syllables.
