Alkarma Language School The story is a Chinese legend. A legend is a very old story which isn’t always true. It’s about a young Chinese boy called “Chang”. Chang looked after the Emperor’s sheep. Also, he loved playing his wooden flute & people loved to hear him play. The Emperor was jealous of Chang because people love him & know him more than the emperor. So, the emperor had a plan to let Chang go. Introduction

Alkarma Language School People shouted to Chang to play his flute for them. When he played, they had happy thoughts. Chang liked his job, which was to look after the sheep, but he loved to play his flute. The sheep that Chang looked after lived in a field near Chang’s house. Page 3

Alkarma Language School The Emperor came to Chang and he found that one of the sheep wasn’t there. There were only nineteen. Chang didn’t know how this sheep was lost, but the Emperor told him that he played the flute and didn’t look after the sheep well. Pages 4 & 5

Alkarma Language School The Emperor went back with Chang to Chang’s house, took his flute and broke it into two pieces. He told Chang to go away of the house and the field and not to come back again. So Chang now lost his job, his flute and his house. Page 6
