Second Language Acquisition and STARTALK Session Goals • Explore how SLA research findings can inform best practices in STARTALK programs • Relate concepts of SLA to standards-based World Language and Culture Education • Frame research questions for further study and identify how STARTALK can contribute to the knowledge base in the area of teaching and learning of less-commonly taught languages

GROUP 1 How does Second Language Acquisition (SLA) Research inform best practices that lead to learner performance of the following standard? Identify research findings in general terms and/or provide citations.   Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions and exchange opinions. Save your response as a PowerPoint presentation on the flash drive provided for your group. You will have three minutes to share your presentation in a whole group format.

GROUP 2 How does Second Language Acquisition (SLA) Research inform best practices that lead to learner performance of the following standard? Identify research findings in general terms and/or provide citations.   Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics.    Save your response as a PowerPoint presentation on the flash drive provided for your group. You will have three minutes to share your presentation in a whole group format.
