Abuse of Opioids ZOHYDRO – THE NEW OXYCONTIN? Powerful new painkiller (opioid) approved last fall by FDA against the recommendation of an FDA advisory committee Hit the market in March 2014 Contains hydrocodone which is second only to OxyContin in abuse. Zohydro has 5 times the hydrocodone previously available in pill form. Twenty eight (28) attorneys general signed a letter asking the FDA to revoke the drug’s approval or require the manufacturer to reformulate the drug to make it harder to crush. Vermont Governor issued emergency order making it harder for physicians to prescribe.
