GEAR UP Idaho  GEAR UP Idaho is a federal grant program that provides comprehensive, early intervention college access programming to selected Idaho students and their parents that will help them learn about, prepare for, and succeed in college.

GEAR UP Idaho Program  The mission of GEAR UP Idaho is: To inspire students to become active in their educational experience To ensure students are academically prepared for high school graduation and postsecondary education

GEAR UP Idaho Students  The GEAR UP cohort model involves providing services to ALL students in participating grade levels (7 th, 8 th and 9 th grade) and continuing through 12 th grade.

What is GEAR UP?  GEAR UP is a program that focuses on early intervention strategies to assist students in becoming prepared for postsecondary education.  GEAR UP will help students meet standards necessary for high school graduation and provide them with the skills to succeed beyond high school

What is GEAR UP? (Cont.)  GEAR UP students will create a personalized learning plan that includes common college and work-preparatory classes such as additional and more rigorous math, English and science courses  GEAR UP will advise students on advanced learning opportunities and encourage them to participate in these options while still in high school.

 GEAR UP will guide students through programming that encourages self knowledge, promotes career exploration and leads students to make informed decisions about life after high school. What is GEAR UP? (Cont.)

GEAR UP Provides  Regional and Site Coordinators to aid in the implementation of the program at each school  Funding to reimburse schools for costs associated with approved school-specific training, programs and activities  GEAR UP students an opportunity to apply for a 4- year renewable scholarship based upon financial need and participation in the program  Funding for students to take the EXPLORE, PLAN and ACT  Professional development opportunities for teachers and school administrators

GEAR UP Idaho Impact  This year, GEAR UP Idaho will serve more than forty schools, reaching approximately 5,500 Idaho 7 th, 8 th and 9 th grade students.

GEAR UP Services  Some of the activities and services GEAR UP students receive include: After-school tutoring and mentoring Job shadowing and career exploration Student-led parent teacher conferences School and classroom technology integration Family college access and financial information nights

GEAR UP Idaho Outcome  Through implementation of activities and services, GEAR UP Idaho has the ability to created a learning environment that promotes positive changes within GEAR UP schools and communities.

GEAR UP Outcome (Cont.)  The GEAR UP Idaho program will: Increase the academic performance of students Increase postsecondary preparation Increase graduation rates and postsecondary attendance rates in Idaho

Increase the ability to plan for the future, set, and accomplish goals Increase the knowledge of postsecondary education options, preparation and financing Increase family involvement in school GEAR UP Outcome (Cont.)
