Power Pool Overview (I) Pool set up in February 24th, 2005; EAPP is special institution of COMESA for electrical Energy Main objective: To make available for the Eastern Africa Region an affordable and reliable electricity, by pooling together all available electrical energy resources in the Region in an optimised and coordinated manner, in order to increase the access rate to electricity by the population of the Region and thereby promote regional integration; Key activities undertaken so far: EAPP Strategic Plan: financing pledged by EC-Energy Facility; EC-appraisal mission completed in November 2006; Capacity building: financing pledged by EC-Energy Facility and by AfDB; EC and AfDB-appraisal missions completed in November 2006; EAPP Master Plan: financing pledged by AfDB; AfDB-appraisal mission completed in November 2006; Data base and power market rules: financing pledged by EC-Energy Facility; EC-appraisal mission completed in November 2006;

Power Pool Overview (II) Next key activities planned: Lessos (Kenya) to Jinja (Uganda) transmission project: duplication of the existing 132 kV line with a parallel 230 km and 230 kV line;FS expected to complete in the second quarter of 2007; Mbara (Uganda) to Kigali (Rwanda) transmission project: 135 km and 220kV line; FS expected to complete in the second quarter of 2007; Ethiopia-Kenya Interconnection:1200 km and 400 kV line; FS will start in the second Quarter of 2007; Rwanda-Burundi interconnection: 109 km and 132 kV line; FS expected to complete in the second quarter of 2007; Ethiopia-Sudan-Egypt Interconnection: FS expected to complete in the 1st quarter of 2007; Zambia-Tanzania-Kenya interconnection: 250 km of 220 kV and 670 km of 330 kV; FS completed; Agreements-Negotiations between countries still ongoing; Rusizi III Power Plant: 82 MW-200MW hydro between Rwanda and DRC; PFS completed; Gil Gilbe III Power Plant: 870 MW hydro (Ethiopia); Construction ongoing; EPC-Contract;
