“Rotary is an organization of Business and proffessional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service,encourage high ethical standard in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world”

Rotary is an International Organization There are 531 Districts in 166 countries throughout the world. Our club, The Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan is in District 3150 which is comprised of 81 clubs with 3,500 members. There are currently 33,855 clubs with 12,24,384 members worldwide.

In the beginning… The first Rotary Club was organized in Chicago in 1905, by Paul P. Harris. The club, with four members, met in rotation at the offices of the members - thus the name Rotary. The First Rotary project was public restrooms in downtown Chicago. Rotary became the world’s first “service club”.

Women in Rotary In 1988-89 women were admitted to Rotary. Wives of male Rotary members are affectionately called Rotary Annes. The informal organization of Rotary Anns is called “The Inner Wheel Club”

The Motto of Rotary is “Service Above Self” The motto explains the philosophy of unselfish volunteer service.

The Rotary Emblem The Rotary emblem “The Wheel”is perhaps one of the most widely used emblem in the world The emblem illustrates Civilization and movement

Classification Principle The 4-Way Test Four basic principles guide Rotarians in achieving the ideal of service and high ethical standards: Object of Rotary Avenues of Service Classification Principle The 4-Way Test

Object of Rotary The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: First. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; Second. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by each Rotarian of his or her occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

Object of Rotary Third. The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to his or her personal, business and community life; Fourth. The advancement of international understanding, good will, and peace through a world of fellowship of business and professional people united in the ideal of service.

Object of Rotary

AVENUES OF SERVICE Club Service Vocational Service Community Service Those things that a Rotarian does to help make successful the running of the local club. Vocational Service The promoting of the “ideal of service” throughout the business and professional world. Community Service Urges every Rotarian to participate in all activities which make the community a better place in which to live.

International Service AVENUES OF SERVICE International Service Encourage and foster the advancement of understanding and good will among people of the world. New Generations Service - recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities, service projects, and exchange programs.

THE FOUR-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do Followed by Rotarians worldwide in their business and professional lives, The Four-Way Test was created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932. It has since been translated into more than 100 languages and is used by organizations and individuals throughout the world. 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Classification Principle Rotary allows only a specific number of individual members in any vocation to belong to an individual club, thereby promoting a broad base of ideas and respect for each vocation. The current membership approves each individual who might wish to join a Rotary club.
