Age Concern Barnsley Independent Brokerage Service Remember - don’t let unanswered questions stop you getting into the boat!!!!!

Age Concern Barnsley Independent Brokerage Service What does this mean to providers and what do we need to think about for the future? 1. How do providers develop our existing services and supports that both self funded and people with individual budgets and personal budgets would want, to embrace self directed support. 2. How do providers develop new services and supports that both self funded and people with individual budgets and personal budgets would want.

Age Concern Barnsley Independent Brokerage Service Challenges and Opportunities Challenges  As things stand at the moment we in effect have one commissioner. As personalisation develops we will be dealing with several hundred individuals who will be purchasing/commissioning their own services as customers in the market place.  We need to develop unit costings for all of our services – A menu and tariff of what is available.  We need to manage a mixed economy of block contracts and individual budgets and work through the transition.

Age Concern Barnsley Independent Brokerage Service Challenges and Opportunities cont’ Challenges  We need to think about how we ensure payment of invoices from individuals who are self funding.  We need to think about quality control.

Age Concern Barnsley Independent Brokerage Service Challenges and Opportunities cont’ Opportunities New work! New Roles P.A.s rather than Support workers? Families as commissioners, managers and providers of services? Care managers as social workers? Brokerage Menu of services Financial Recruitment and supervision of staff Payroll Housing ‘One stop shop’

Age Concern Barnsley Independent Brokerage Service Change The Unknown Uncertainty –Block to spot, spot to Direct Payment, direct payment to Individual budgets –New ways of commissioning and contracting –New ways of providing –New ways of working with users and families –New ways of monitoring Implication for providers

Age Concern Barnsley Independent Brokerage Service

Age Concern Barnsley Independent Brokerage Service Will Commissioners commission in new ways? Will providers like us be more transparent in how we charge for our services? Will Social services change their ways of working? Will families and carers want to take on new roles and responsibilities? Will we all be willing to share our power, listen to each other, and work together so everyone has the opportunity to experience self directed support? Challenges

Age Concern Barnsley Independent Brokerage Service Opportunities?
