Algebra II Revision

Convert the following Word Equation and prove how it works. Think of a number. x Add three to it. x + 3 Multiply by ten 10(x + 3) Take away five 10(x + 3) - 5 Divide by five 10(x + 3) – 5 5 Take away the first number you thought of 10(x + 3) – 5 5- x Take away the first number again 10(x + 3) – x

The number you are left with is… 5 Using algebra, prove why the answer is always 5? 10(x + 3) – x = 10(x + 3) – x 21 = 2(x + 3) – 1 – 2x = 2x + 6 – 1 – 2x = 5

Determine the formula a gardener would need to calculate the number of sleepers required for any size enclosure. LWS (L + W) Table the above enclosures and determine the formula.

The gardener is asked to build an enclosure 120 sleepers long by 80 sleepers wide – How many sleepers will he need all together? 2(L + W) = 2( ) = 2 (200) = 400 Sleepers

Simplify by expanding and collecting like terms: 2a 2 (3a a) + 3a (5a 5 – 2a 2 ) = 6a a a 6 – 6a 3 = 21a a 3

Factorise the following expression: 20ab + 16b = 4b (5a + 4) Common Factors are 4 and b

Simplify: - 4ab ÷ - 44a = - 4 a b ÷ - 44 a = 1b ÷ = b ÷ 11

Simplify: = 6ab × c × 11 = 66abc = 6abc × 11 6ab × c × 11

Simplify: = -12a 6 b 5 × -2ab 2 = 24a 7 b 7 -12a 6 b 5 × -2ab 2

Simplify: = 6a + 12b – 7a +11b = 23b - a 6a + 12b – 7a +11b
