Duncanrig Secondary School Parents as Partners “There is nothing that schools can provide which helps pupils to progress as much as parental encouragement, interest and support. “ “No-one can do everything, but everyone can do something.”

Duncanrig Secondary School Support Encourage Work Together Parents as Partners

§Be supportive in any way you can: help, advise, find time for him/her to work, help to create an environment at home that supports effective study. §Be positive! Use praise. Show belief in his/her abilities and agree realistic targets for success in each subject. Develop her/his self-esteem. Avoid the temptation to nag! §Be interested. Be a partner in his/her journey through S1. Try to help with homework. Talk regularly with your child. Keep tabs on how he/she is spending his/her time.

§The value of good routines is huge. Help to establish these. §Good routines build good habits and goods habits make a huge contribution to successful learning. §You have to encourage good habits and keep talking to your child to ensure that the good routines are being followed. Don’t be fobbed off with “Of course I am”. Make sure for yourself. Good Routines

§If you are aware of the important dates and events you can plan your own time better to provide support and be more sensitive to your child’s needs during crucial times. §You are also in a better position to ensure that her/his time is spend effectively, balancing between working and relaxing.
