NU-ROOF 12 Month Meeting Chemnitz 14/15 December 2010 Top coat layer Activities:  Production of hand samples coated by NTUA/TNO with acrylic paint Vivecryl (from NANOPHOS) and Encryl (from Boerner) Tests: 1.Thermal behaviour 2.Thermal conductivity  Results are presented by NTUA

Water permeability: Step 1: Testing the original material  hydrostatic pressure test according DIN EN Step 2: Abrasion test DIN EN ISO  Martindale device Step 3: Testing the Resistance to water penetration after abrasion treatment  see step 1 Results:  Mechanical influences such as abrasion increase the water permeability of coated material  Sealing the top layer at first with Encryl at the back side delays water penetration

Reflexion degree:  Reflexion coefficient is measured by a spectral photometer (type: Lambda 900 of company PERKIN Elmer Corp./USA with 150 mm integrated sphere and 8° inclination of sample surface to the light incidence axis)  According to European standard EN 410 (reflexion, transmission and absorption of visible light and global radiation)

NU-ROOF 12 Month Meeting Chemnitz 14/15 December 2010 Top coat layer 4. Reflexion degree: Light reflexion degree is the share of sun radiation in the range of visible light which is reflected. Solar reflection degree is the share of sun radiation of the entire wave length range which is reflected. Results:  the values for light reflexion are between 0,63 and 0,82  the values for solar reflexion are between 0,72 and 0,90 Following the conceptual design and the data from standards a IR value of 0,8 is required.

NU-ROOF 12 Month Meeting Chemnitz 14/15 December 2010 Top coat layer Results:  Most suitable material for top coat layer samples are spunbond nonwovens thermally bonded (very thin)  Coating at first the backside with Encryl prevents a penetration of Vivecryl to save acrylic paint  A suitable technology for coating is slop padding (kiss roll) to guarantee an even distribution of the top coat Next activities:  Top coat layer coated at the lab scale plant was sent to NTUA and TNO for testing  STFI works on improving the evenness in applying the coating agents

NU-ROOF 12 Month Meeting Chemnitz 14/15 December 2010 Functional/intermediate layer Activities:  Production of hand samples sent to TNO for coating  Materials were coated with aqueous suspensions of acrylates or stabilised bitumen to be combined with suspensions of Arginotec and/or encapsulated PCM’s and tested  Different deliveries to identify the most suitable material  Close cooperation with TNO to determine the most suitable material

NU-ROOF 12 Month Meeting Chemnitz 14/15 December 2010 Functional/intermediate layer Results:  Good results in impregnation is only possible if the nonwoven material is hydrophilic enough, has a good wet ability and does not contain too many small air pockets  Low density and thickness up to 4.5 mm deliver good impregnation results  Spunbond nonwovens are very thin and not suitable for coating with aqueous suspension  Suitable materials related to thickness and density are needle-punched nonwovens with an mass per unit area around 400 g/m² and thermally after-treated to smooth the surface

NU-ROOF 12 Month Meeting Chemnitz 14/15 December 2010 Next activities:  Evaluation of sample delivery sent by end of November to TNO  Identification of most suitable nonwoven material  After identifying the best material, production of more nonwoven material at lab scale plant Functional/intermediate layer Equipment for production of needle- punched nonwovens
