OBJECTIVE  STUDENTS WILL LEARN SURFACE AREA FORMALAS AND LOOK AT SOME EXAMPLES AND LEARN THE STEPS

KEY TERMS  SURFACE AREA OF A PRISM IS THE SUM OF ITS FACES. YOU MEASURE SURFACE AREA OF A PRISM IN SQUARE UNITS. YOU CAN FIND THE SURFACE AREA BY FINDING THE AREA OF ITS NET.  NET IS A TWO-DINMENSIONAL PATTERN THAT YOU CAN FOLD TO FORM A 3-D FIGURE.YOU CAN USE NETS TO DESIGN BOXES.

KEY CONCEPTS

EXAMPLES  Find the surface area of the  rectangular prism.  Find the area of each face.  Area of top or bottom:  Area of front or back:  Area of either side:  Add the areas of all six faces.   ANSWER  The surface area of the prism is 108 square inches.
