Allie’s Basketball Dream Focus Skills: Narrative Elements- characterization Synonyms Using a dictionary To read and understand a realistic fiction selection; to compare realistic fiction with expository text Subjects and predicates Genre Realistic Fiction- tells about characters and events that are like people and events in real life. Summary Allie can’t make a basket with her new basketball. She keeps on trying, however, and finally shows that basketball is not just a game for boys. Reading Strategy Summarize One way to keep track of what is going on in a story is to summarize. Good readers pause every few pages or chapters and think about what has happened in the story so far. Ask yourself who are the main characters, what are they doing and what has happened to them? Keeping track of story elements will help you remember parts of a story.
