Presentation transcript:

 EC Professional Development Day February 18, 2013

 Progress monitoring is a scientifically based instructional strategy used to assess a students performance and evaluate the effectiveness of instruction over a given amount of time.  Progress monitoring is a valid and efficient tool for gauging the effectiveness of instruction, determining whether instructional modifications are necessary, and providing important information for eventual classification and placement decisions.

Using the post it notes provided on your table, place yourself on the continuum – ranging from “religiously” to “oh snap…it’s the end of the 9 weeks and progress notes are due”.

 Regular education teachers should monitor a students progress on Common Core and Essential Standards through benchmarking.  Regular education, Title I, interventionists, and support personnel should progress monitor students who are at risk for failure at least monthly through a pre-referral process.  Special education teachers should be monitoring students one to three times per week on specific skills needed to access grade level curriculum as determined by IEP goals.

 In order to monitor the effectiveness of instruction, all students should participate in benchmarking assessments and universal screenings.  Students who are identified as having a disability should be progress monitored on a weekly basis, from one to three times per week.

 Students identified as having a disability should be monitored one to three times weekly.  Progress monitoring should occur throughout the entire continuum of service from regular education to separate setting.  Progress monitoring can be completed in an inclusion setting, during resource groups, one on one, or as determined by modifications/accommodations.

 Systematically  Consistently  Have a set schedule for progress monitoring.  Use a standardized administration procedure that allows for accuracy and reliability.

 Reading  Writing  Math  Behavior  Functional Skills Any area of need in which students are being provided instruction.
