Initiatives: way citizens propose new laws or state constitutional amendments Indirect: measure is first brought to legislature to be passed into law, then put to a popular vote if not enacted by legislature Direct: put to a popular vote directly after being submitted by petition  Proposition :if citizens want a new law they must gather signatures of registered voters on a petition Enough signatures the proposed law is put on the ballot in the next general election  Recall: voters can remove an elected official from office through a direct vote before his or her term has ended
