Alex grey

Biography Alex grey was born November 29 th 1953, he is still alive today. He is an American spiritual, or visionary artist His work is considered “psychedelic art” His body of work spans a variety of forms including performance art, process art, installation art, sculpture, visionary art, and painting. attended the School of the Museum of fine arts, Boston for one year, to study with the conceptual artist, Jay Jaroslav. At the Boston Museum School he met his wife, the artist Allyson Rymland Grey. During this period he had a series of entheogenically induced mystical experiences that transformed him from being agnostic to a radical transcendentalism.

Some of Alex grey’s visionary work The progressive metal band Tool has featured Grey's artwork as album artwork for their album Lateralus. He also executed the stage design for Tool for the associated tour that included massive reproductions of the album artwork as well as provide the artwork for the 2006 Tool album 10,000 Days and the computer-generated graphics for the video of the single “Vicarious". Tool also used a few paintings from Alex on their 2007 tour of Europe, Asia, and North America. Grey has also made his own contribution to the philosophy of art in his book The Mission of Art (1998). Therein, he promotes the possibility of the mystical potential of art: he argues that the process of artistic creation can (and should) play a role in the enlightenment of the artist. For him, the process of artistic creation holds the potential of transcending the limitations of the mind and more fully expressing the divine spirit. He also believes that art can induce within the viewer an elevated state wherein spiritual states of being are attained.

Famous Paintings Alex grey’s paintings can be described as a blend of sacred, visionary art and postmodern art.

This painting is off the collection which took 10 years to paint, it is an album of artwork dissecting the different layers of the human physical body, and the energy body. This art piece is named the Spiritual Energy System It is showing the flow of energy constantly flowing in and around you’re physical body, ever wonder why sometimes you can sense when someone is watching you? Or why you can feel something before it touches you’re physical body.. This is why.

One of Alex grey’s most famous paintings, is his psychedelic painting of Albert Hoffman holding the LSD-25 molecule in his hand.

Alex grey was hired by the profound band Tool to do album artwork for their album Lateralus. These paintings are some of his most recognizable work, because they are such a famous band. This painting below is probably the most well known painting off the album, it was from his painting collection: Progress of the soul. This painting is named Net of being.

This painting is named over soul, it is also off the collection: progress of the soul, this is another one of his very well known paintings. It is symbolizing the idea that our physical form is only a small projection of who we actually are, experiencing the universe from a singular perspective.

Why is Alex grey my favourite artist? Ever since I was a little kid I have like Alex grey’s paintings, I remember my parents had a book of his most famous work and it always really spoke to me. I find his work inspirational, he is more than just a painter he is a true artist. And he does much more than paint, he has a chair at the church of wisdom, and he teaches courses in Visionary Art with Allyson at The Open Center in New York City. I also am very interested in metaphysics, psychedelia, and am constantly pondering what reality really is. So Alex grey really inspires me and I just feel a connection with his artwork, I would say his art visualizes my thoughts in a sense.

I have added this last painting because it’s one of my favourite paintings by him Named: Theologue I interpret from this painting that it is representing the body meditating and projecting its astral body from the third eye into the “astral plane” which is a non-physical realm of existence, I also enjoy the fact that he has painted the chakras of the human body.
