Each week you will complete one task from the list below. You must hand in one completed task every Tuesday, which will be marked and returned to you the following week for you to reflect on the feedback and make any amendments needed. You may do the tasks in any order you like. 1.Draw a map of your island 2.Create your own native island tribe 3.Write your own folktale for the island 4.Message in a bottle 5.Leaflet on survival on the island 6. Create a island beast/creature and write a scientific fact sheet about it. 7. Make a list of materials needed and a set of instructions for making a model of your island. Firstly give it a name Label any areas of interest and give some background information about the island (use your imagination – e.g. Has it been inhabited before? What plants and animals live there? Treasure? Magical creatures/spirits). Where is it in the world? ( e.g. Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Mediterranean Sea) Type of landscape: Beach/dessert/canyons/waterfalls/mountains/caves Include a compass to show direction. A Key is optional

For this task, you will write your own story for the islanders. This can be based on magic, explain how something came to be the way it is or carry a moral message. You should: Give the folktale/story a title You should produce at least one side of A4 which includes lots of detail and descriptions. Your task is to: Write an Information Leaflet on how to survive on the island. This should include easy to follow steps for survival such as: How to build a shelter What to eat and what not to eat (say why) Where to go and where not to go (say why) How to collect fresh water and where on the island it can be found How to avoid being eaten by the creatures on the island and any particular plant or animal species that are poisonous. Any extreme weather conditions such as thunder/sand storms. Remember to use: Use headings and sub-headings Paragraphs ( for every new idea or topic discussed) Persuasive language techniques Summary of main points ( keep it simple and to the point) Key catching Images to support your written text

For this task: you will create a island ‘beast’/ animal species and write a scientific fact sheet for it. For the first box, just tick which type of animal it is. If it fits in more than one category, just tick which ones. Remember, if your animal is a predator, you need to state what its prey is and how it catches it. For the creature image you have the choice of drawing it, finding an appropriate image on the internet or create your one on ICT programmes such as ‘sketch-up’. If you wish to use ICT, the library is usually available or you can come see me and we can arrange a break/lunch or afterschool slot for you. Remember to use: Use a variety of scientific terms and powerful, descriptive words Summarise the main/ most important points ( keep it simple )
