Seven years ago the Friends of South Slough (FOSS) began a special initiative called “FOSS Floats!” The goal was to embark on a series of projects that would create opportunities to experience the estuary from our waterways as well as the SSNERR trail system.
“FOSS Floats!” has accomplished two exciting projects since the initiative began. The first project was the 75’ long pedestrian bridge that now extends our estuary study trail system across a tidal inlet. The second project was the purchase and donation of a 24’, eight-passenger, PacNW native american styled fiberglass canoe.
The next “FOSS FLOATS!” Project: The Float House Project-- A logical next step in expanding the SSNERR study trail system to include the water- bourne perspective of the estuary. Comprises two concurrent subprojects: -mooring dock with paddling portage point -detachable/towable floating classroom
Proposed location for mooring dock & paddle trip embarcation & disembarcation access
Float House architecture and structure to be inspired by our Coos Bay Cultural Heritage & History
