Drugs Effects on Our Bodies ‘ We are stewards of ourselves’

Aims – To have the information on: 1. Solvents 2. Alcohol 3. Tobacco -The effects of these on the health of the body.

Solvents Affect behaviour Can damage the lungs, liver and brain

Alcohol Has an effect on the nervous system Slows down reaction time, causes loss of self control + even coma May damage the liver and brain

Tobacco

Tobacco contains substances which cause: 1. Lung cancer 2. bronchitis and emphysema 3. Heart disease + damage to blood vessels 4. Pregnant smokers often have low weight babies due to carbon monoxide in the blood reducing the oxygen supply to the baby ( Carbon monoxide irreversibly combines with the haemoglobin in red blood cells)
