Presentation transcript:

Week 7 IT 23 More Person words (2) This continuation from ‘person words 1’ increases awareness of how more person words can be built in the same way, by adding person word endings (suffixes) to the ‘Does’ or the ‘What’ word. This time the stem may change slightly. Sometimes the stem word has to be modified by taking some letters off the end e.g. a person who works in a library is a librarian. Or an extra letter may be added in e.g. a person who runs is a runner. The extra letter will always be shown in black to distinguish it from the suffix. The children are shown through a series of slides, how person words can be formed from the ‘Does’ in ‘Who Does What’ for ‘-er’ words, or from the ‘What’ for ‘-ist’ and ‘-ian’ words. Two slides at the start remind the children of the Week 6 activity which introduced the person words. They write their answers on an answer sheet (see next slide) which needs to be printed off and given out before the lesson. For each slide, a picture of a person will appear with a short description of what they do. This includes the stem morpheme (e.g. science), and the children have a choice of suffixes (-er, -ist, -ian ) to see if they can select the correct one to go with the stem morpheme to make the person word. A pencil symbol will appear on the screen to prompt the children to write, and a question mark will appear to encourage children to discuss answers with the teacher. They may remember that ‘-er’ suffix is mostly added to verbs and the ‘-ist’ and ‘-ian’ are mostly added to nouns. When this has been done, feedback appears on screen and the children can see if they have made the correct choice.
