S e r m o n N o t e s Serve!

Joseph Had A Servants Heart. Do You Have A Servants Heart? Some people have the following kind of hearts… Takers Heart – all they do is take from others, never giving.

Users Heart – all they do is use people. There is no genuine motives in their giving. Spoiled Heart – they are use to receive everything they want whenever they want it.

Deceivers Heart – they want others to think theyre servants but theyre not. Lazy Heart – they are just to plain lazy to serve others, no motivation.

Mean Heart – some people are just plain mean. Evil Heart – they are just plain evil from the very core of their lives. Servants Heart – they have a true hearts desire to serve others with nothing in return.

In the Bible, greatness is defined by servant hood. We talk about serving God but this phrase can be a bit nebulous. serving God means loving and serving others. Having the heart of a servant is incredibly important.

God designed you for service, not for self-centeredness. Without a servants heart, you will be tempted to misuse your gifts and abilities for personal gain. You will also be tempted to use it as an excuse to exempt yourself from meeting some needs.

Your servants heart will reveal your depth of maturity; the measure is our willingness to serve. God often tests our hearts by asking us to serve in ways were not used to.

It is possible to serve in church for a lifetime without ever being a servant. This is because to be a servant, you must have a servants heart.

How can you know if you have the heart of a servant? I. Real servants have the right attitude. Philippians 2:1-16 A. Example of good servants

1.Timothy Philippians 2: Epaphroditus Philippians 2: Clement Philippians 4:3

B.Bad examples: 1.Euodia and Syntche Philippians 4:2 2.Martha Luke 10:32-38

II.Real servants make themselves available. 2 Timothy 2:4 (If you only serve when its convenient for you, youre not a real servant.)

III.Real servants pay attention to needs. Galatians 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

IV.Real servants do their best with what they have. A. Ecclesiastes 11:4 Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.

B. Ecclesiastes 11:4 (TLB) If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done. C.If you want to wait until you are perfect youll never start.

V.Real Servants do every task with all their hearts. A. Colossians 3:23

B. Galatians 6:2-3 If you think you are too important to help someone in need, you are only fooling yourself. You are really a nobody. It is in these small acts of service that we grow like Christ.

C.Jesus specialized in menial tasks that everyone else tried to avoid: washing feet, helping children, fixing breakfast, and serving lepers. Nothing was beneath Him, because He came to serve. It wasnt in spite of his greatness that He did these things, but because of it, and He expects us to follow His example. John 13:15

D.Small tasks often show a big heart. Acts 28:3
