Act I: Scenes i, ii, iii Recap Act I serves as the exposition…what do we know so far? Discuss Literary Road Map questions

Shakespeare’s Poetry Shakespeare’s plays are a form of poetry Class Notes 21 Shakespeare’s Poetry Shakespeare’s plays are a form of poetry Poetry is any literary work with rhythm The language in Shakespeare’s plays often takes on one of two forms: blank verse rhymed verse

Two Forms of Verse Blank verse is unrhymed poetry meaning there is no rhyme at the ends of lines. Rhymed verse is speech that is written in a rhyming pattern. When Shakespeare rhymes, he usually creates couplets.

Couplets Couplets are two consecutive lines of poetry that rhyme Example: “She is too fair, too wise, wisely too fair, To merit bliss by making me despair. She hath forsworn to love, and in that vow Do I live dead that live to tell it now.”

Now You Try! Work in pairs to identify 3 examples of couplets in any of the scenes we’re read so far. Write the couplets and page numbers they appear on down in your notes.
