3 Why can words with similar meanings be found in the English language? Please give us an example Because each word came from a different language. E.g. sick----- used by the Angles and the Saxons ill ------- used by the Norwegians

And their language mixed with Anglo-Saxon and became what we now call Old English. For example, they said housen instead of houses, and shoen instead of shoes. After the Normans took control, they began using the French way of making plural, adding an –s to house and shoe.
