Presentation transcript:

A polygon with 4 sides & 4 angles Quadrilateral A polygon with 4 sides & 4 angles Square Parallelogram Trapezoid Rectangle Isosceles trapezoid Rhombus

Trapezoids A quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides. Isosceles trapezoid Trapezoid Also has one pair of opposite congruent sides

Parallelogram A quadrilateral with BOTH pairs of opposite sides parallel and congruent.

Rhombus A quadrilateral with 4 congruent sides and opposite sides are parallel.

Rectangle A quadrilateral with opposite sides congruent and parallel. Has four right angles.

Square A quadrilateral with 4 congruent sides and 4 right angles. Opposite sides are parallel.

Why is each statement below true? A rhombus is always a parallelogram, but a parallelogram isn’t always a rhombus. 2. A rectangle is a parallelogram, but a parallelogram is not necessarily a rectangle. 3. A square is a rectangle, but a rectangle does not have to be a square.
