Resume Writing

What is a Resume? A document that presents a summary of your background, skills, and accomplishments to a potential employer

Why Do I Need One? In today’s job market, the resume has become the number one requirement potential employers request. Why do you think this is the number one requirement?

The 3 Fs of Resume Writing Function: to inform the audience about you in order to get a job Form: Resumes are written in a certain way, depending on the style (e)Ffectiveness: Has a clear purpose Is visually appealing and easy to read Includes all necessary info Is grammatically correct

What Info Goes On A Resume? Look at the sheet that I passed out to you.

Three Types of Resumes Chronological: Provides recent and relevant work history in reverse- chronological order. This is the easiest type of resume to write and read! Functional: focuses on your skills and experience, rather than on your chronological work history Combination: combines both of the chronological and functional resumes

Sample Resumes Look at the sample resumes that you have been given. Can you guess which one is which type?

Final Thoughts Before an employer will take valuable time to interview you, he or she wants to meet you on paper. How you impress that employer with your resume can, and will, make all the difference. Without a resume, you can’t even begin to compete, and an inferior resume will quickly eliminate you before you even have a fighting chance.

Time to Practice!! You will now practice writing your own resume. If you do not have work experience, then go off of your skills/abilities.
