Tiers of Entry for Exams – two options, Foundation and Higher Higher Tier Exam Papers In the new course is harder to achieve level 5 on the Higher tier papers. It is policy, following national guidance from the exam board to only enter students for Higher tier if we have evidence that they are consistently performing at a grade 6 or above. Foundation – this is not the underdog tier! Borderline students are more at risk of achieving low grades on the higher paper – in the Foundation they will have more chance of achieving Grade 5’s (equivalent to a low B or high C grade in old money) The decisions regarding tiers are made around February of Year 11
