GROWTH VS. FIXED MINDSET

Growth Vs. Fixed Mindset Created by Carol Dweck to describe the underlying beliefs people have about learning and intelligence Having a growth mindset means you believe that your skills and intelligence are things that can be developed and improved. Having a fixed mindset means you believe that your skills and intelligence are set and can’t be changed.

Growth Vs. Fixed Mindset research shows that the growth mindset is what fosters grit, determination, and work ethic within students, athletes, and people of all ages. people with a growth mindset learn, grow, and achieve more than people that have fixed mindsets. People with growth mindsets are more likely to be successful People with growth mindsets respond better to challenges and failures

Growth vs. Fixed Mindset – What does it sound like? Growth mindset Fixed mindset “I will work very hard and improve my math knowledge” ”I don’t understand this but I know I will figure it out” “I am not a Math person” “I will never figure this out” WITH YOUR GROUP COME UP WITH 3 MORE EXAMPLES FOR EACH MINDSET AND WRITE THEM DOWN

TED TALK TDQS: Carol Dweck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiiEeMN7vbQ *RESPOND TO EACH QUESTION in 2-3 SENTENCES USING SPECIFIC DETAILS FROM THE VIDEO* 1. Describe the experiment that Carol Dweck performed to figure out how kids respond to challenges. How did the responses between the two groups of kids differ? 2. How can parents/teachers “bridge the gap to yet”? 3. Why is having a growth mindset important? Use details from the video to support your response.
