Savanna

Tropical Savannas Tropical Savannas are areas of wide grasslands. Tropical Savannas are in West Africa have the greatest concentration of grazing animals on Earth.

Tropical Savannas There are also large predators that eat them. Lions live in large familial groups called prides. Females are the hunters. Hyenas live in large familial groups, too. Females dominate these packs. Lion Hyena

Tropical Savannas Tropical savannas are plains or grassland characterized by scattered trees. Tropical savannas have too little rain to grow many trees.

Plants of the Savanna Savanna trees and grasses have large root systems to help plants through dry season. Savanna trees grow in sand dunes and rocky grounds of Africa's grasslands. These trees grow in areas with annual rainfall as low as 4 cm. Umbrella Thorn Acacia is one of the most recognizable trees of the African savanna.

Animal Adaptations Large grazing herbivores follow the rains to areas of newly sprouted grass. Animals are born during rainy season Animals reduce competition by eating different foods.

Grassland Predators Predators take advantage of the large amount and large size of herbivores on the grasslands. Predators follow migrating herbivores. Predator-prey relationships web Battle at Kruger
