1/18/2019 The reproductive system is important to ensure the species. The individual can survive without reproducing. The male sex cell is sperm and a human sperm cell carries 23 chromosomes (1/2 the number to make a human). The female sex cell is egg and a human egg cell carries 23 chromosomes (1/2 the number to make a human). Fertilization is when sperm enters an egg.

Female Reproductive System: Organs and glands Vagina– the canal through which the baby passes during birth. Cervix– opens up to the vagina. The cervix contains the offspring inside of the uterus until ready for delivery. Protects the uterus. Creates a channel for sperm and menstrual blood to pass. Uterus– where the development of the baby takes place. Pear shaped organ about 3-4 inches in size.
