Graphing using Slope-Intercept Form Once an equation is in the form y = mx + b, we can: Find the slope Find the y – intercept Graph the equation (quickly!) Y = ½ x + 2 ½ 2 Slope: y – intercept: (0, )

Given a point (not an intercept) and the slope, write the equation of the line Example 1: find the equation of the line through (1, 2) with a slope of -2. Step 1: Plot the given point Step 2: Use the slope to plot other points Step 3: Draw the graph Step 4: Use the graph to find the y-intercept and write the equation y = -2x + 4 y = mx + b y = -2x + b

Example 2 y = mx + b y = -1x + b y = -1x + 2 Find the equation of the line through (-2,4) with a slope of -1. y = mx + b y = -1x + b y = -1x + 2
