Presentation transcript:

API Specification 6A Keel Block Requirements Tim Haeberle API SC6 2012 Summer Meeting

Background API 6A 18th, 19th and 20th Editions have used 0.25R as the envelope for test specimen removal in Figure 20 c

API 6A 20th Edition / ISO 10423:2009 The Problem: Figure 3 (c) defines the geometry and ER of the keel block QTC in terms of “R”. Footnote f identifies the circle labeled as 0,25R as the “Envelope for test specimen removal. 0,25 R is too small of an area to be the ¼ T envelope. The sections that specify the requirements for removal of the tensile test specimens and impact test specimens from the QTC utilize terminology related to the “¼ T envelope”. The R dimension is not linked to the T dimension.

API 6A 20th Edition / ISO 10423:2009 The Solution: Revise the drawing and the footnote to define and dimension the 1/4T envelope for test specimen removal.

API 6A 20th Edition / ISO 10423:2009 The Solution: 1,25R Diameter = R f 1,25R f This area is the centre core ¼T envelope for test specimen removal
