Automated Lapping Process Development
Version 1 Air Cylinders – put the part thorugh the range of motion paths that a human arm would produce.
Version 1 Fixture – delivers cylinder motion to part, must be able to engage the various part sizes.
Version 1 Weight Bag – supplies downward pressure on part.
Version 1 Air Logic Controller – mechanically distributes pulses of air pressure to operate cylinders in timed sequence.
Version 2 Larger Air Cylinders – reduce flexing in cylinder stroke arm, increasing part movement stability.
Version 2 Hangman Apparatus – reduces need for operator to manually lift weight bag onto table.
Version 2 Computer Logic Controller – distributes air in timed sequences, providing more precise control of air cylinder and part motion. Controller can be fine-tuned and reprogrammed with a laptop computer.
Version 3 Articulating Arm – eliminates manual handling of the weight bag entirely. Adjustable air pressure controls allow easily adjustable downward pressure on part.
Version 4 Installation – of the automated lapping equipment on a lapping table used on production shop floor.
Version 4 Controls – finalized and installed within easy reach of the operator on table front.
Version 4 Modifications – allow equipment to be moved out of the way to allow for manual lapping when required.
