Cool Facts About Bees: Not all bees have two parents! In a colony of honeybees there is one special female called the queen. There are many worker bees who are female too but unlike the queen bee, they produce no eggs.

More Cool Facts About Bees: There are some drone bees who are male and do no work. Males are produced by the queen's unfertilized eggs, so male bees only have a mother but no father!

More Cool Facts About Bees: All the females are produced when the queen has mated with a male and so females have two parents. TO SUMMARIZE: – Males have one parent (female) – Females have two parents (F + M)

Make a Bee Family Tree In groups of 3, make a family tree for a male drone bee.

Make a Bee Family Tree START WITH: 1 Male GENERATION 1 1 Female ? ? GENERATION 2

Make a Bee Family Tree In groups of 3, make a family tree for a male drone bee. Count the number of MALE bees in each generation. Do you notice a pattern?

Whats the Pattern? Starting with the 3 rd term, each term in this sequence is the sum of the two terms that come before it This pattern is called the Fibonacci Sequence
