EFFECTING CHANGE Resistance Dissatisfaction Vision First Steps

RESISTANCE Poor Communication Poor Timing Work Pressure Peer Pressure Lack of Trust Confusion

DISSATISFACTION One or two of your classmates think that there is too much reading for an assignment and that they are spending too much time keeping up with the requirements for this one assignment. A student says that they haven’t received feedback from an assignment. Students are complaining that a lecturer won’t provide them with any notes or slides You have been approached by one of your classmates with a personal non-academic issue (e.g. mental health, a welfare issue, money worries) or about an academic appeal. These are examples of people coming to you with areas of dissatisfaction. But now think of an area in your school YOU would like to proactively improve

WORKSHOPPING ACTION PLANS

Your action plans Your task is to take your first steps to form a more detailed action plan. Work with a buddy to: Review your first steps – are they the right ones? Think about what challenges you might face Suggest ways to overcome those challenges Think about what resources you might need (cost, materials, time) Think about who the key people are in implementing your plan. The aim is for you leave the session with a plan you can begin to put in to place in the next few weeks. It's better to suggest solutions rather than describe problems.

GATHERING EVIDENCE Communication Networking Resources Informal and Formal Interactions Organising Feedback Qualitative versus Quantitative Integrating and Building Arguments Presenting Data toward Change

COMBATTING APATHY Benchmark Questions Set Realistic Goals Set Varied Goals Use Varied Methods Mix Up the Schedule

ENHANCEMENT THEME – SEMESTER 2 This year's theme is: evidence-led enhancement Priority 1: using evidence to improve the student experience Priority 2: using evidence to improve design of teaching space Priority 3: optimising the use of the data from the teaching awards Priority 4: exploring opportunities to diversify the student body Fund is off-line for semester 1, but plans are to launch the fund in semester 2 The priorities of the Enhancement Theme for this year are: optimising the use of evidence to improve student experience, using evidence to improve the design of learning and teaching space, optimising the use of student-led teaching awards data, and exploring potential opportunities to diversify the student demographic. The fund is offline for semester 1 (for staff and student-led projects) due to budget constraints, but the University are hoping to launch one in semester 2 for Enhancement Theme related projects – so watch this space!
