Eye Clinic Day Hospital - SÃO Paulo - Brazil Comparison of Microcoaxial and Clear Corneal Incision Using Visante OCT ™ Mariana Ávila, MD Adriana Forseto, MD, Phd Walton Nosé, MD, Phd Eye Clinic Day Hospital - SÃO Paulo - Brazil Unifesp - SÃO Paulo - Brazil *The authors do not have any financial interest

(Visante OCT ™,Carl Zeiss) Purpose To investigate microcoaxial and clear corneal incision (CCI) architecture in the postoperative period using non-contact anterior segment optical coherence tomography (Visante OCT ™,Carl Zeiss)

Methods Prospective study 30 patients submitted to phaco Incision Microcoaxial 2.20 mm width (15 eyes) Clear corneal 2.75 mm width (15 eyes) IOL implantation Monarch injector Cartridge C

Methods Postoperative evaluation 1st day, 1st and 3rd months Slitlamp examination Seidel test IOP measurement Visante OCT™ Incision architecture Configuration Coaptation Stability

Descemet’s Detachment (*) Results Incision Descemet’s Detachment (*) Configuration Microcoaxial 46,7 % (1st day) 0% (1st and 3rd months) Straight Line Clear Corneal 0% ( 1st day, 1st and 3rd months) Arcuate *No Descemet’s Detachment was observed at slitlamp examination

Detachment of Descemet’s membrane Visante OCT ™ MicrocoaxiaL Incision Detachment of Descemet’s membrane 1 day postoperative 1 month postoperative

Visante OCT ™ Clear Corneal Incision 1 day postoperative

Visante OCT ™ MicrocoaxiaL x Clear corneal Incisions Straight line configuration Clear Corneal Arcuate configuration

Results Good Good (OCT) (negative Seidel) Incision Stability Coaptation Microcoaxial Good Good (OCT) (negative Seidel) Clear Corneal

Results 10 +/- 2mmHg 14 +/- 2mmHg Incision Mean IOP Microcoaxial Clear Corneal 14 +/- 2mmHg

Conclusions Visante OCT™ analysis of Microcoaxial and Clear Corneal Incision post phaco showed: a higher percentage of Descemet’s Detachment in the Microcoaxial group at the 1st postoperative day; that localized detachment of Descemet’s membrane may be more common than observed with slit-lamp microscopy; different incisions' configurations between the two groups with no difference regarding proper coaptation and stability.
