What is aspiration?

DEFINITIONS strong desire, longing, aim or ambition to achieve something such as success a will to succeed

Why do we need aspiration?

Determination for success Helps you make the right choices – in lessons, options, college courses, work experience, clubs Helps you follow the right paths and put effort in the right places Improve life chances Gives you direction

Aspirations, hopes and dreams start at an early age. We refine them as we get older and have more life experience and realise that they make not come true e.g. Being a princess, scoring the winning goal in the world cup final!! We set goals to achieve aspirations.

What aspiration did these people have? Wanted every American person to have equal rights and opportunities. Bullied at school for being small In 2008 broke ankle and couldn’t compete in Beijing Olympic Games. Overcame this, rebuild her career and now is Olympic champion in the heptathlon

‘No matter how many people believe or don’t believe in you, you must be the ultimate believer in yourself’!

Instead of thinking this… Think this… It won’t matter if I miss training a couple of times. I can’t afford to miss training at all. I hope I pass this test. I’m determined to pass this test. I make sure my homework’s done right away. I do my homework most of the time. I’ll be happy if I don’t get any more detentions this term. I’m going to make sure I don’t get any more detentions this term. I think my parents will be happy if I get 10 Achievement Points I’m going to work to get as many Achievement Points as possible.

Ask yourself these questions: 1. Do you set goals for yourself? 2. What are your goals for this year? 3. How about 3 years, 5 years, 10 years from now? 4. What do you need to do to make these aspirations come true?
