Ethical considerations in educational research Eileen Honan and Christina Gitsaki

Seeking approval for the conduct of research Those who volunteer to be participants in research have their rights and needs respected and protected.

Doing ethical research Respecting participants Understanding issues related to power in the relations between researcher and researched Always ethical considerations in any act of research

Ethical considerations Irrespective of the level of risk involved, research of a kind falling under the following chapters of the National Statement must be reviewed by one of the institutional ethics committees: Interventions and therapies, including clinical and non-clinical trials, and innovations (Chapter 3.3) Human genetics (Chapter 3.5) Human stem cells (Chapter 3.6) Women who are pregnant and human foetus (Chapter 4.1) People highly dependent on medical care who may be unable to give consent (Chapter 4.4) People with a cognitive impairment, an intellectual disability, or a mental illness (Chapter 4.5) People who may be involved in illegal activities (Chapter 4.6) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (Chapter 4.7)
