Policy Forum : Acting against Ethnic Discrimination on the Labour Market Presentation

European Platform on Overcoming Ethnic Discrimination Launched in 2006 Lead Member State: France Partner Member States: Germany & Sweden Aim: highlighting new ways for different key actors to tackle ethnic discrimination by using experiences developed in Equal projects

European Platform: PRS 5 Peer Review Seminars (PRS) targeting different key actors: Employment & training intermediaries Social partners NGOs Employers Local and regional actors Each PRS: 10-15 Equal DPs from across the EU Results : summaries + recommendations Implementation : February to May 2007

European Platform: Policy Forum Final event : Policy Forum Aims: Present lessons, conclusions & recommendations from the PRS Discuss and test them with key decision-makers from across the EU Explore ways of mainstreaming successful experiences from EQUAL

High European participation rate 268 participants in total 122 non-French Europeans from 18 Member States

Ten recommendations discussed by around 50 European decision-makers

Types of decision-makers Representatives of the European Commission Member State governmental representatives Participants in the non-profit sector Representatives of major Trade Union organisations Officials from major European municipalities: Uppsala, Barcelona, Paris, Bremen. Large businesses: Macif, Fexco Nordic, Air France KLM

More than 60 projects presented their results and their methods, shared their successes and encouraged decision-makers to make use of them

Recommendations Trade Unions Reinforcing the role of mediator in Trade Unions in order to provide specific assistance to immigrant workers Putting the fight against ethnic discrimination at the heart of Trade Union action : appeals, collective bargaining, regulations
