Hardware Commissioning Status Report MAC, December 08,2006 Roberto Saban Short Circuit Tests Preparation for the first cool down Enforce Safety Quality Assurance Tightening loose bolts Resources

The tests of the power converters in short circuit PC 18kV for the dipole circuits 400V for the others Water UPS for all converters above 4 kA DCCT Short Circuit UA, UJ, RR tunnel, UJ

The power converters & the associated systems 952 / 968 already installed

Preparation of the first cool down Many non conformities on cabling AC cables not crimped as per state of the art DC cables with extensions Missing cable lengths Late or just in time (but too just) installation of equipment (electronics, cables, etc) Insufficient preparation of some tests with respect to: Co-activities Access conditions Safety conditions It is the first one!

High voltage tests of every circuit at warm Ensure both insulation to ground and among circuits Record reference values for leakage currents and transfer functions All the instrumentation electronics is not yet ready, therefore it was decided to carry-out the tests without it all quench protection equipment disconnected from DFB all current lead heater cables disconnected from DFB cryogenic instrumentation cables disconnected from DFB DC cables clamped to leads with insulation in between 1.9K 4.5K

High voltage tests of every circuit at warm Positioning of the DC water cooled cables on the DFB 4.5K

High voltage tests of every circuit at warm Safety measures & access restrictions

Preparation of the first cool down Ongoing individual system tests Orbit correctors PC/cables polarity test PC tests HV tests Installation of BLMs ongoing Cryogenic operation related activities Purging & filling of the helium vessel & lines. Flushing, next week

2007: the year of commissioning Point 2 Point 4 Point 6 Point 8

2007: the year of commissioning short circuit tests all sorts of system tests at warm leak & pressure test electrical quality assurance at warm W CD C Injection system MKI TDI beam stopper beam instrumentation NC magnets cool down from 300 to 80 K cool down from 80 to 4.5 K cool down from 4.5 to 1.9 K electrical quality assurance during cool down tuning of control loops calibration of instrumentation collimators injection system control injection system tests electrical quality assurance at cold individual system tests at cold powering tests TI8 beam injection tests

2007: the year of commissioning cool down from 300 to 80 K cool down from 80 to 4.5 K cool down from 4.5 to 1.9 K electrical quality assurance during cool down tuning of control loops calibration of instrumentation electrical quality assurance at cold individual system tests at cold powering tests 450 Gev lower fields lower currents increased tolerance to temperature variations Reduced commissioning times for some of the circuits Reduced commissioning times for the calibration of instrumentation and tuning of temperature control loops

Resources

… in summary Chasing all the completed warm systems/components and organize their commissioning Short circuit tests (power converters, cabling, infrastructure) more than half completed Preparing the cool down of the first sector and … learning! Very worried for the availability of resources beyond the first two sectors
